Colorado Springs Real Estate: Two prominent independents in Colorado Springs residential real estate market joined forces Thursday, as Shields Real Estate acquired Martha for an undisclosed sum.With the acquisition, Shields now can tap the resources of a company synonymous with upscale properties in Colorado Springs Real Estate, especially on its southwest side.
Likewise, the acquisition strengthens Shields -- one of the Colorado Springs Real Estate's larger independently owned firms -- as it battles nationally affiliated companies in the Springs' highly competitive, fast-growing Colorado Real Estate residential market. "We need to continue to be a player in this market," said Shields owner Hurt. For Martha Taylor, the alliance means greater access to a larger company's resources, such as Shields' relocation department and marketing technology."There were things that, the size we were, we just were not going to be able to accomplish," said Colorado Springs Real Estate broker-owner Martha Taylor, a frequent user of the Colorado Springs MLS.

The combined Colorado Springs Real Estate company will be one of the city's larger real estate firms, with about 70 full-time agents, two offices and about $ 275 million in annual sales. Individual agents for both companies will continue to operate much as they have in the past, and customers probably won't notice the change in their Colorado Springs Real Estate plans or investment opportunities. Hurt will be president and chief executive officer of the new organization and oversee its consulting center, on the Colorado Springs Real Estate's northside.
Taylor will become a vice presiden of the company's Colorado Springs Real Estate unit, member of the board of the new organization and general manager of its Broadmoor Consulting Center and Colorado Springs Real Estate board, which will operate out of Taylor's office. Hurt was Shields' executive vice president and general manager before buying the company from founders Cres and Mary Shields in 1996. Earlier this month, he was named Small Business Person of the Year by the Greater Colorado Springs Real Estate Chamber of Commerce.
